Orathanadu




Orathanadu is a taluk headquarters in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. This prominent town is on the mid way between Thanjavur and Pattukkottai, on the State Highway. The place has a Maratha chattram named after Muktambal, one of the queens of Sarfoji II. This chariot shaped building displays religious sculptures in stucco and wood. Also, a famous Shiva temple is located here. The only survey training institute of the state lies in this town, which provides survey training to the revenue and survey officials.

Manora, an eight-storied miniature fortress, is nearby. Mannargudi Vishnu Temple and Shri Mannargudi Teerth at Mannargudi is easily accessible from Thanjavur via Orathanadu, which is a 30 km drive. The town of Neyvasal is 10 km north.

Thanjavur Junction Railway Station and Pattukottai Railway Station are the nearest railheads. The airport close to Orathanadu is Tiruchirapalli Airport, which is 64 km north-west.
