Vandalur Zoo is located 25 km from
Chennai. This is one of the finest open-air zoos in India which organizes mini-safaris including lion safari, deer safari and bear safari. The zoo, inaugurated in 1985, is spread over 510 hectares.
Some of the highlights of the zoo are the monitor lizard, chimpanzee, European brown bear, muscovy duck, giraffe, tiger, lemur, macaque, vulture, and reptiles like the starred tortoise. The zoo also contains the prehistoric house where the statues of dinosaurs are kept, and a nocturnal animal house. It also holds a veterinary hospital.
