Arulmigu Chokkalingeswarar Aalayam is located at
Perianaickenpalayam,
Coimbatore. It is 18 kilometers away from Coimbatore on Mettupalayam Road. The temple devoted to
Lord
Shiva, dates back to the 14th century and the carvings seen here proclaim its architectural value.
There are carvings of a tortoise, a fish and a snake on either side of the walls of the main shrine. The main feature of the temple is that the snake has been carved such that it faces towards its left and the Sanctum sanctorum faces west, unlike other temples in south India which usually face east. Another speciality is that all the deities are with their consorts. The temple is open for devotees from 7:00 to 12:00 hrs and from 17 : 00 to 20 :30 hrs.
The Kumbabhishekam of this temple was last performed in 1987.
The registered society Perianaickenpalayam Thiruvarul Thavaneri Mandram, formed in 1976, takes care of the functioning of the temple.
