Kambasarbeswarar Temple is a 13th century
Chola shrine situated at Tirubhuvanam, in
Thanjavur District of
Tamil Nadu. Built by the Kulothunga Cholan-III, this magnificent temple is one of the major landmarks of the town.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple enshrines Kambasarbeswarar as the presiding deity. The deity is worshipped here in the form of a Shivling. The goddess in the temple is called Aramvalartha Nayaki. The Utsava Murti of the temple is Sarbamoorthy - whose form is half human and half animal.
This temple of yore is an ideal example of the Chola style of architecture. The 160 ft high gopuram of the sanctum sanctorum boasts several exquisitely carved sculptures. The inside walls of the temple speak of high devotional fervor.
Vasanthotsavam, Karthikai Somavaram and Arudhra Darisanam are the major festivals celebrated here in a grand manner.
Kambasarbeswarar Temple is just 8 km from Kumbakonam and can be easily accessed from Kumbakonam Railway Station.
