Thirumazhapadi is a scenic village located on the banks of the
River Kollidam, in
Perambalur District,
Tamil Nadu.
A legend associated with the village says that its original name was Dhalavanam. It came to be known as Thiru-Mazhupadi, later Thirumazhapadi, after Lord Nataraja performed the cosmic dance at the local Vaidyanatha Swami Temple with a ‘mazhu’(axe) in his hand. Local populace highly rever this temple and it is thought that a bath in the temple tank will cure leprosy and bless barren women with children.
