Gajalakshmi

Gajalakshmi is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. She emerged from the ocean of milk during the Palazhimathanam, on a fully bloomed lotus with lotus flower in both her hands, and an elephant on either side. The elephants sprinkle the sacred water from holy Ganga on the Goddess. Hence she got the name Gajalakshmi, where ‘gaja’ means elephant.

She is also called Samudratanaya, since she was born from the ocean of milk. Gajalakshmi is often portrayed as seated on a lotus, surrounded by lotus flowers, on the waters of life and the two elephants by her sides holding beautiful vessels. She is considered as the Goddess of luck.
