Bhavani River




Bhavani is a major tributary of the Cauvery River . This 185 km long river flows through the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Bhavani river originates in the upper regions of the Nilgiris of the Western Ghats. It descends towards west and makes a circuitous course through the Attappady valley of Palakkad District. Then it continues its path to the Nilgiri mountains and passes through the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Erode. Finally Bhavani River merges with the Cauvery at Bhavani in Erode District.

Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple , situated at the confluence of Bhavani and the Cauvery rivers, is a prominent pilgrim center. Bhavani Sagar Dam is a tourist spot across this river. The river flows near Mettupalam, a prominent town and gateway to the hill station Ooty.
