Eravikulam National Park, located about 15 km from
Munnar, is situated in the
Devikulam taluk of
Idukki District.
Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary forms a part of the national park. Tourists can visit the Rajmala part of the park with entry passes.
This park lies along the high ranges of the western coast in the Munnar Forest Division of Idukki District. It spreads over an area of 97 sq km and was established to protect the
Nilgiri Tahr. Rajamala is the natural habitat of this rare mountain goat.
Other wildlife includes elephant, leopard, tiger, Malabar civet, sambar deer, barking deer, nilgai, langur and python. The important birds found here are imperial pigeon and gray jungle fowl.
Anamudi Peak, the highest peak, is situated within the park area. Trekking facilities are available.
Visiting hours is from 07:00 to 18:00 hrs and the best time to visit is November to April. Accommodation is available at guesthouses in Munnar and Devikulam. PWD rest houses also offer accommodation.
Cochin International Airport (143 km) is the nearest airport from Eravikulam. A motorable road is there up to Rajamala, the park headquarters, and from Rajamalai, tourists have to travel on foot for around 18 km.
