Periyanayaki Amman Temple of
Palani in
Dindigul District is also known as Town Temple. It is situated just 2 km away from Adivaram in the town. The temple was built by Nayaks about four centuries ago. The chief deity is Goddess Periyanayaki. Other idols of the temple are Muttukumaraswami,
Subramanyar,
Kailasanathar and
Natarajar. There are a series of festival deities within the iron railings in the Muttukumaraswami shrine. Uchi Mahakali is the last one of all the deities.
The temple is a
Muruga shrine with the flagstaff and idol of the vehicle are all in front of Muruga. To the northern side of Muruga is Kailasanatha and to the southern side is Periyanayaki. This seating arrangement is known as Somaskanda Murtam. There are many sculptures depicted on the pillars, which are of mythological and historical significance. In the Palli Arai in the Amman shrine there is a mirror reflecting the whole chamber.
