Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), founded in 1956, is situated in one of the enclaves of the Sirumalai range in
Dindigul. It is a deemed university, which offers academic programmes in rural development, rural economics and extension education, rural oriented sciences, development administration, English and communicative studies, Tamil and other Indian Languages.
The institute awards doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees, diplomas and certificates through its seven academic faculties including rural development, rural social sciences, rural oriented sciences and agriculture and animal husbandry.
The campus, apart from well equipped library and computer centre, houses some centers, units, divisions, cells and training units for handling research and developmental projects.
Gandhigram is located north of Madurai and is easily accessible by rail and road. Madurai Airport and Dindigul Junction Railway Station are the nearest access points.
