Built in 1700 by the followers of the Nyingmapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, Dubdi Monastery is situated on a hilltop near
Yuksom. The word 'Dubdi' literally means 'the retreat.' It is one of the oldest monasteries in
Sikkim. Dubdi Monastery is also known as the Hermit's Cell after its reclusive founder Lhatsun Namkha Jigme. An early morning or late afternoon visit to the monastery is particularly rewarding for bird watchers.
