Spotted Linsang (Prionodon pardicolor), a rare species, has golden-colored coat with large black spots on the flanks, and elongate body with short limbs and retractile claws. Limbs are same color as that of the body but with black spots. Tail is approximately equal to the body with irregular black and yellow rings.
The head and body length varies between 305 and 452 mm, and tail length 302 to 402 mm. Its weight ranges between 598 and 798 gm. The absence of sex glands in both sexes is also distinctive.
Spotted Linsang is nocturnal and feeds on squirrels, rodents, small birds, lizards and insects. It lives in hollows of trees by building nests with leaves and twigs. The animal is common in Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other northeastern states.
