Namchi Monastery is located in
Namchi, the district headquarters of
South Sikkim District. The monastery is situated near the town and was built by Tensung Namgyal, during the regime of Chogya Gurmed Namgyal. In the monastery, there is a fine sculpture of Padmasambhava, seated on a lotus. There is also a peculiar wall painting of
Dakini, with three eyes, wearing tantric ornaments and standing naked, in a dancing posture.
The nearest airport is Civil Enclave Bagdogra, 124 km from Gangtok.
