Indian Corn



Maize, also known as Indian corn, is an important Kharif crop, mainly cultivated in Nizamabad, Medak, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Adilabad districts. It belongs to the Gramineae family, locally known as makai or maka.

The major protein in the corn is zein. The maize plant is adaptable to widely varying climatic conditions. It can be grown on a variety of soils ranging from sandy to clay. The maize plant has a pithy noded stalk supported by prop roots. Maize is also used for preparation of poultry feed and beer.
