Phang Lhabsol

Phang Lhabsol is unique festival of Sikkim. In this festival the snowy range of Mount Kanchenjunga and Yabdu (the supreme commander) are worshipped. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 7th month of Buddhist calendar, around the end of August.

This festival marks the signing of the treaty of brotherhood between the Lepchas and Bhutias. Local deities are invoked to be present on the occasion. The guardian deity is presented as a red-faced fiery wearing a crown of five skulls and riding a snow lion. Jesters called Atchars play antics during the Chaams to lighten the mood of the spectators.
