Laughing Thrush (Garralax canorus) is a endemic songbird, which is audible across an incredible distance of about half-a-kilometer.
It is a brownish-black bird of about 10 inches in length. Its upperparts are olive-brown except for a yellowish-brown crown, and the underparts are tawny to gray. The white eye ring and streak behind the eye are its characteristic features. The crown, nape, throat, upper breast and tail also have blackish streaks.
The bird mainly feeds on insects. Occasionally fruits are also consumed. It inhabits mostly in mountain forests, thickets, scrub, farmlands and bamboo forests.
Laughing Thrush can be seen in the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala.
