Dzongri




Dzongri is situated about 10 km from Bakhim in West Sikkim District. It lies at an altitude above 4,000 m. Ongathang River flows through Dzongri. The entire region is surrounded by forests of oak, chestnut, pine, maple, magnolia and rhododendron. It offers clear views of Pandim, Kotang, Rathong, Kabru, Dzongri Top (15,000 ft), Simvo and Kanchenjunga. Dzongri Pass, Thangsing, Goechala, Yuksom, Lakshmi Pokhari Lake and Samiti Lake are nearby attractions. It is an ideal base for trekking and mountaineering. Base camps are available.

A variety of animals including Himalayan black bear, barking deer, musk deer, marbled cat and red panda can be seen.

The nearest airport is at Bagdogra in West Bengal. The nearest railway stations are at New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.
