Ahlay Monastery is located in
Namchi, the district headquarters of
South Sikkim District. The monastery was founded by Khechoed Rinpoche in the early sixties. It was first built as a meditation center and later developed into a full fledged monastery, named as the Serdup Choling Monastery. A large number of buddhist monks reside in the monastery and practice the Nyingmapa order of buddhist tradition. Various buddhist festivals including the annual Tsechu festival are observed in the monastery. It is one of the very finely decorated monasteries with a garden and two large Buddhist wheels in the courtyard.
