Tonk District




Tonk District is located in north-eastern part of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Jaipur in the north, Sawai Madhopur in the east, Bundi and Bhilwara districts in the south, and Ajmer District in the west. It covers a total area of 7,194 sq km and has a population of over 1 million. There are seasonal rivers namely Chakan River, Mashi River, Dai, Dheel and Sohadara River. Average rainfall is 62 mm. Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main occupation of the people. Major crops are jowar, bajra, maize, pulses, groundnut, red chillies, wheat and barley. The prime tourist attractions are Arabic and Persian Research Institute, Shivaji Garden, Bisalpur, Rajamahal, Hathi Bhata, Jama Masjid, Suneri Kothi, Sri Kalyanji Mandir Diggi, Dadabadi Temple and Jal Devi Mandir.
