Toda Rai Singh




Toda Rai Singh is an ancient town nestled amidst verdent hills in Tonk District of Rajasthan. It is around 60 km west of Tonk and is 40 km north of Devli on National Highway 12.

The town, which was earlier known as Takshakagadha or Takshakpur, has some beautiful monuments and temples and hence heralds a lot of archaeological and historic importance. An excavated inscription describes Toda Rai Singh as an ancient center of Jainism in the country.

Toda Rai Singh’s origin dates back to the 4th century AD when the Nagas settled around this region. It derived its name from Rail Singh Sisodia, a Mughal 'Mansabdar' during the reign of Shah Jahan. It was the capital of the Solanki Rajputs in the 15th and 16th centuries and was also under the reign of Yuhilas of Chatsu and the Chauhans of Ajmer.

Places of tourist interest in and around the town include Hadi Rani Ki Baori (kund), Raja Rai Singh’s Mahal, Isar Baori, Bhopat Baori and beautiful temples of Kalyanji, Raghoraiji, Gopinathji and Govinddeoji.

Nearest airport is at Jaipur. Toda Rai Singh Railway Station is the terminus point of the rail line from Jaipur. Nearest major railhead is at Sawai Madhopur.
