Bayana is situated in the
Bharatpur District of
Rajasthan, near the left bank of Gambhiri River. Ruled by Mohammad Ghori, Sikandar Lodhi and
Humayun, this historic town was known as Sripatha or Sriprashtha. It is believed that, Bayana is the burial place of many illustrious men. According to Ain-e-Akbari, Bayana was the capital of a province of which Agra was merely a dependant village.
Bijaigarh Fort, built by Jadon Raja Bijai Pal in 1040 AD, is the main attraction. The fort has several old temples and a red sandstone pillar bearing an inscription of Vishnuvardhan, a feudatory of
Samudra Gupta.
Bayana is around 45 km from
Bharatpur.
