Havelis are magnificent and gorgeous mansions that are usually adorned with colorful paintings and intricate carvings on the walls. Almost all havelis have wooden gates or intricately carved gates that lead into a small courtyard, which leads into a larger courtyard. Some havelis have four large courtyards. The main attraction of many havelis is the outstanding murals painted on the outside and inside walls. The decorations may be with gold or silver leaves and small mirrors. Many of the paintings picturise the pastimes of
lord Krishna. Some of the havelis are privately owned and are not open to the public.
