Baba Ram Dev was renowned saint who lived in
Ramdevra village of
Rajasthan. He was known for his miraculous powers and his fame reached far and wide.
Legend associated with him is that once five disciples of Ram Shah Pir, coming from Mecca, decided to test his power. After being convinced on his power, they paid their homage to him. Since then Muslims began to start respect him as Ram Shah Pir. Among Hindus, he is considered as an incarnation of Lord Krishna. Baba Ram Dev believed in the equality of all human beings and helped the poor by fulfilling them their wishes. He took Samadhi in 1458.
Today the village, which got its present name after him, houses a temple around his Samadhi. It was built in 1931 by
Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner, which enshrines the idol of Baba Ram Dev. An annual fair of two days is also organized by the villagers as a tribute to him.
