Dhola Rai was the legendary founder of the Kuchchwaha clan who ruled medieval
Amber in
Rajasthan. He was a Rajput given shelter and brought up by a tribe, called Minas. When he came of age he went to the Tomar Court at
Delhi and befriended other Rajput warriors. With their aid, he attacked his benefactors, the Minas, and established his own kingdom in 967. He is mostly known for his romantic elopement with Maroni (Maru), the Princess of Ajmer. Dhola was killed by the Minas.
The rivalry between the Kuchchwahas and the Minas continued for a few generations. Dhola's grandson conquered the Amber Fort and established his capital there.
