Duff is an outdoor musical instrument of rim-variety similar to a tambourine. It originated from Arabia and is an essential accompaniment in Muslim religious functions and weddings. This hand-held percussion instrument with round shape (wooden frame) has a single face made of goat skin. The diameter of the Duff varies from three inches to three feet. It is struck with the fingers and palm in synchronized beats to create exquisite rhythmic patterns.
The Duff is played on many festive occasions such as Holi and Muharram procession. It also referred as daf, dapphu and daffali.
