Marwar is a region formed by the western districts of
Rajasthan which includes
Jodhpur,
Jaisalmer,
Barmer,
Bikaner and
Nagaur districts. As a part of
Thar Desert, the region is dry with sparse vegetation, dust storms and burning sunshine.
It was once a princely state with Jodhpur as the capital and the home of Rathore and Bhatti Rajput warriors. The main inhabitants are
Rajputs, Jats and Bishnois, who are semi agriculturists.
Horse safaris are arranged. Marwar Festival is celebrated in Jodhpur in October. The delight of Malwar is the horse, the 'Marwar.'
