Also known as Iron Fort, Lohagarh Fort was built in the early 18th century by Maharaja Suraj Mal. It stood solidly against many attacks by the British. The fort is surrounded by high walls and a moat, which was filled with water to ward off the enemy attacks. Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, Moti Mahal and Kothi Khas are some of the monuments present inside the fort. Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj, inside the fort, were built by Suraj Mal to memorialize his victories over the Mughals and the British. The Ashtadhatu (eight-metal) gateway is adorned with paintings of huge elephants. The fort is open to visitors daily from 10:00 to 16:30 hrs, except on Fridays.
