Kumbha Shyam Temple




Kumbha Shyam Temple, constructed by Rana Kumbha, is a beautiful temple situated near Chittorgarh Fort in Chittorgarh District of Rajasthan. It is of similar in architecture of as that of the Kalika Mata Temple at Chittorgarh.

This ancient temple is dedicated to Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is a less ornate temple crowned by a pyramidal roof and lofty tower. The recessed fillet is decorated with diamonds framed by pilasters. The wall has sculptured niches with a pyramidal pediment and displays the images of gods and goddess including 8 regents. The top of these walls are decorated with intersecting garland loops. The temple has a sanctum and shows bold podium-mouldings supporting the wall.

To the south, a smaller temple with a delicate curved tower is dedicated to Princess Meerabai, poetess famed for her devotion to Krishna.
