Algoza is a wind instrument used along with dances and songs in
Punjab,
Rajasthan (
Ajmer and Tonk) and
Maharashtra.
It is a pair of beak flutes played at the same time. The flutes are placed inside the mouth and blown. One flute is for melody and the other for drone or base note. As there are orifices on the flutes, melodious tunes are produced. In Punjab, the songs relating to traditional legends (Mirza, Chhalla and Jugni) accompany this instrument.
