Rajputana Museum, also known as Ajmer Government Museum, is an archeological museum situated at
Ajmer, in
Rajasthan. It is housed in the beautiful fort and palace built by the
Mughal Emperor
Akbar in 1570. Established in 1908, the museum exhibits several inscriptions, ancient coins, sculptures, copper plates, paintings and arms and armory. The sculptural collection dates back from the
Gupta period to the late medieval period.
There are also objects from Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpara and other exhibits lying in various go-downs forming a large reserve collection. The museum has a well-stocked library which showcases rare books and important historical publications. Guide services are available for the visitors.
Rajputana Museum was the venue where the British envoy Sir Thomas Roe met Emperor Jahangir in 1616.
Rajputana Museum is open from 10:30 to 16:30 hrs on all days, except Fridays and public holidays.
