Gurdaspur, a border district of
Punjab, covers an area of 3,570 sq km. The history of
Gurdaspur, the district headquarters, dates back to early 17th century. The two important industrial centers are the Batala and
Dhariwal for the manufacture of machine tools and woolen products.
Gurdaspur District has a large number of swampy lakes, and is famous for snipe-shooting. The important places to visit are
Pathankot, Gurdwara Achal Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak, Kalanaur, Akbari Masjid,
Sri Hargobindpur and Qadian.
