Nurmahal is a small town situated on the Old Imperial Road from
Delhi to Lahore, 33 km from
Jalandhar, in
Punjab. It is thought to have been built at the site of an old town in the 16th century.
Nurmahal is christened after Noor Jahan, the queen of Jehangir, who is thought to have spent her childhood here. The town then came under the rule of Talwan Rajputs and Ahluwalia Sikhs before the British wrested control in the 18th century.
Major point of tourist interest in Nurmahal is the Mughal Serai constructed by Noor Jahan.
Nearest airport is at Ludhiana. Nakodar Junction Railway Station is located on the Lohian Khas-Nakodar-Ludhiana line of the Northern Railways. By road, the town is linked with Phillaur and Nakodar (13 km).
