Kapurthala District of
Punjab is named after its founder Nawab Kapur Singh. It covers an area of about 1,633 sq km. The climate is typical of the Punjab plains, a sub-tropical continental monsoon type climate.
The major portion lies in the river that interacts between the
Beas and Kali Bein and is called the ‘BET’ area. The economy is predominantly agriculture. The major crops are wheat, sugar, tobacco and cotton. It is well-known for hand-painted cloths and metalwork of Phagwara. The prime tourist attractions are Panch Mandir, Handira Mausoleum,
Gurdwara Ber Sahib, Kachari, and Jagatjit Palace.
