Phagwara




Phagwara is a historic town situated 56 km east of Kapurthala, in Punjab. It was founded by Shah Jahan in the 17th century. Phagwara is a major industrial center and main market for agricultural and textile products in Kapurthala District. Phagwara is 58 north of Ludhiana.

Phagwara, owing to its strategic location on the Grand Trunk Road and the proximity with the main railway link of Amritsar-Delhi, has developed into an industrial hub even quicker than the headquarters town of Kapurthala. Major industries of the town include sugar milling, textile manufacture, electrical accessories, machine tools, agricultural implements and rubber products.

Places of tourist interest include Gurdwara Chouda Khuh Sahib, Vishwakarma Temple, Mansa Devi Mandir and a mosque built during Mughal rule. Mela of Phalani, an annual event, is another major draw.

Nearest airport is at Ludhiana (80 km). Phagwara Junction Railway Station is a major railhead of Punjab. By road, Phagwara is linked with New Delhi, Shimla, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar.
