Hoshiarpur




Hoshiarpur, an ancient city of temples, is 45 km north-west of Jalandhar. The city is the center of Indo-Sanskrit studies and Brighushamita Astrology. It is known for the manufacturing of wooden toys. Its industries include silk weaving and oilseed pressing.

The Vedic Research Institute (VVRI) that publishes books on Indology and Vedic scriptures is located in the city. It also houses the Punjab Government Archeological Museum.

The city is also famous for colorful lacquer finished plastic inlay furniture, and musical instruments. Shish Mahal, that depicts the coronation of King George the Vth, is also located in the city.

Nearest airport is at Amritsar. Hoshiarpur Railway Station is a major railhead of Punjab.
