Fort of Kotkahlur

Fort of Kotkahlur is situated on the Naina Devi Hill, just a few kilometers from the Ganguwal Hydro Electric Station in Bilaspur District. It was constructed by Raja Bir Chand, the ancestor of Raja Kahal Chand. Due to age and neglect, now the structure is more or less in a dilapidated state.

The fort, built with stone, is a square structure measuring 30 m x 30 m. It is two storied with each floor having a height of about 15 m. The second floor is supported on numerous high stone pillars. Certain window shaped places with small peeping holes can be seen about 12 m above the floor of the second storey. They are believed to be provided for the garrison to do reconnaissance and shoot at the besiegers if situation demanded. Now these hollows have been closed using cement or iron mesh. The upper storey houses a small temple enshrining a stone idol of Naina Devi.
