Rupnagar




Rupnagar, formerly known as Ropar, is the district headquarters of Rupnagar District in Punjab. The city lies on the Sutlej River near the head of the great Sirhind Canal.

Rupnagar was one of the oldest towns in the Punjab. The relics excavated from Nalagarh Tibbi, a mound, reveal that the town was a prosperous in the past with an advanced civilization similar to Harappa and Mohenjodaro civilizations.

The prominent attractions are Pincassia Boat Club, treaty place of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Lord William Bentick, site of Indus Valley Civilization, Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib and Gurdwara Sadabarat.

Rupnagar is about 42 km from Chandigarh and 290 km from Delhi, on the way to Anandpur Sahib.
