Chandni Chowk, in
Delhi is an area completely dedicated to shopping and trading. It is packed with all kinds of shops, bazaars and trading centers. One of the largest trading centers in North India, Chandni Chowk is located near the
Red Fort. The
Sunehri Masjid and the
Fatehpuri Mosque are also situated near the market place. The Fatehpuri Mosque was the venue of public debates between Muslim theologians and Christian missionaries in the 19th century.
The modern-day Chandni Chowk is a lot different from what it was in earlier days. The main street of the market with all kinds of traffic offers a wide range of shops. These sell jewelry, stationery, textiles, medicines, fruits and much more. Nai Sarak is a reputed marketing place for books, stationery items and musical instruments. Jewelry items can be purchased from Dariba Kalan and Kinari Bazaar. Old Lajpat Rai Market is best for electrical goods and Moti Bazar is famous for shawls and pearls. People from all over the country arrive at this 'silver square' to shop.
