Located in
Puri District of
Orissa, Raghurajpur is the only Indian village where everyone is an artist. It lies on the southern bank of
Bhargavi River, about 14 km from
Puri near Chandanpur on the
Bhubaneswar road (
National Highway 203).
The village is famous for the Pata-Chitra paintings. These paintings are created using a sheet of cotton cloth, which is treated a coating of gum derived from tamarind seeds.
The place, with its thatched, brick houses on high plinths with sit-out platforms and artists creating secular and religious themes presents itself as an interesting excursion.
The temples dedicated to Radha Mohan, Gopinath, Raghunath, Laxminarayan, Gouranga and Bhuasuni (the village Goddess) are famous over here. This heritage craft village is also the native place of the famous Odissi dancer Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar (50 km). Puri Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Regular buses connect Bhubaneswar and Puri.
