Kualo

Situated at Kamakhyanagar subdivision in Dhenkanal District of Orissa, Kualo is a small village with immense religious and cultural importance. The name, a corruption of Kodalaka, the head quarters of the Sthamba or Sulki kings of the ninth century, was once a prosperous town. Kualo is famous for housing a plethora of temples dedicated to Lord Kanakeswar, Baidyanath, Paschimeswar, Balunkeswar and Kapileswar. The temple of Kanakeswar preserves some of the earliest specimens of sculptures representing temple building activities in Orissa. The ruins of the temples are all to be found in the outskirts of the village.

Kualo is 72 km from Dhenkanal, 45 km from Angul. Dhenkanal, located on the National Highway No 42, has direct road connections to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Puri and Sambalpur. The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar, which is 100 km from Dhenkanal. It is a railhead on the South Eastern Railway.
