Jajpur is an ancient town situated on the banks of
Baitarani River, in
Orissa. The administrative headquarters of
Jajpur District, it is 90 km north-east of
Cuttack.
Jajpur was the erstwhile capital of Utkal and was a prominent center for trade and commerce in the olden days. It is one of the pilgrim centers of the state. Famous places of pilgrimage include the shrines of mother Goddess Viraja (Durga), Sveta Varaha (incarnation of Lord Vishnu as the white boar) and Sapta Matruka.
Nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar.
Jajpur K Road Railway Station is on the
Howrah-Cuttack line.
