Bhairavi is one among the eight Ambas (Ashtambika) in
Hinduism. She is a fierce and terrifying aspect of
Parvati, and is the consort of
Bhairava, the angry
Shiva. She is sometimes identified with
Bhadrakali.
Bhairavi represents the principle of destruction and is manifested when the body declines and decays. Destruction, need not always be looked upon as negative, since creation cannot continue without it.
