Alexandrine Parakeet (Psittacula eupatria) has a prominent black collar around neck with additional pink layer at back. It is 45 to 50 cm in size. The body is mostly green, darker on wings with a reddish shoulder patch. The inner tail feathers are yellowish. Eyes are gray with red circles. Female lacks the black neck collar.
The bird is commonly seen in forested and cultivated lands and also in parks. It nests in holes gnawed in trees, chimneys and naturally occurring hollows. The bird feeds on seeds and fruits.
