Cathedral Church is located at
Aradurah Hill in
Kohima District of
Nagaland. It is an important landmark at
Kohima and is one of the biggest cathedrals in the north-eastern states.
Covering an area of 25,000 sq ft, the church building gives a fine example of the Naga style houses. The cone shaped roof at the important places together with the supporting column differentiates it from the other churches. The tower which holds the roof weighs 400 metric tons of iron. A blend of the indigenous and modern architecture, the church has a quiet and serene ambience for meditation and prayer.
The main significance of the cathedral is that it has the biggest cross in India made of wood. Apart from that, it has natural lighting inside the church. The main altar is visible from every corner of the hall. The daily worship is from 09:00 to 16:00 hrs.
The Chapel of the Bl Sacrament, the Chapel of Baptism, the sanctuaries and the confessionals are located in a lower church adjacent to the main building. Another point of interest is the presence of the statue of Bl Mother, the pilgrim Virgin who has visited all the Parishes and centers in Nagaland.
Cathedral Church can be easily approached from Kohima and Imphal (130 km).
