Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary




Perched at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level, Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary (KNCTS) is located at Khonoma, in Nagaland. It is about 21 km from Kohima.

Spread in an area of over 70 sq km, the place is endowed with rich forest cover and rare biodiversity. Set up in 1998, this sanctuary is privately owned and is managed by the Khonoma Village Community. KNCTS is a unique example of the community initiative for wildlife and environment conservation. This sanctuary is home to the Blyth’s Tragopan, an endangered pheasant of Nagaland. It is also the habitat of many other endangered and rare species of plants and animals.

Dzukou Valley is a part of the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary.
