Situated at an altitude of 3,395 ft above sea level, Meluri is a sub-divisional town 15 km west of
Phek. The town experiences cold in winter and warm during summer. The inhabitants of this town are
Pochury tribes whose main occupation is farming.
Meluri is bestowed with abundant natural resources. It has a deposit of various decorative and dimensional stones, coal, brine, crystalline limestone, iron, chromium, nickel, cobalt, copper, asbestos, talc and marble.
Nagaland’s only cement factory is in this town.
Meluri is well connected by road with Phek and Kohima. Dimapur Railway Station and Dimapur Airport are the nearest railway station and airport. Shilloi Lake is easily accessible by jeep or bus via Meluri.
