Poumai Naga Tribe is one of the major and oldest tribes among the Naga tribes.
Poumai Naga is one of the recognized tribes of
Manipur predominantly inhabiting
Senapati District. Members of this tribal group are also seen living in
Phek District of
Nagaland.
The history of Poumai Nagas is unknown, but their rich cultural traditions are reflected in their elaborate rites and rituals. They have a number of festivals, songs, dances and other performing arts. The biggest harvest festival of the Poumai community is Poumai Thounii. Agriculture is their main occupation. They also make a wide range of indigenous handicraft and handloom material.
