King Kyamba




King Kyamba is famous for introducing Vaishnavism in Manipur, in the 15th century AD. He ascended to the throne in 1467. King Kyamba was reputed for his military and administrative achievements. He was a patron of the arts as well, for it was during his reign, the Manipuri Dance became popular. He was also a promoter of the Manipuri Polo game. He built many Vishnu temples and the most significant is the Vishnu Temple of Bishanpur, built in 1507.
