Sanamahi is the most important household deity of
Manipur. The name of Sanamahi literally means 'Liquid gold.' He is the son of Atiya Guru Sidaba and Leimaren Sidabi, and elder brother of Pakhangba.
According to Manipuri mythology, he is the creator of the universe, moral beings, frogs, animals and man in the image of the Almighty father. He is god of all those who desire life and energy and is worshipped for removal of diseases. He is installed in the south-west corner of every house. This place is called Sanamahi Kachin.
Cheiraoba and Sanamahi Chemhomba are the important festivals dedicated to Lord Sanamahi.
