Yavatmal District is located in the eastern part of
Maharashtra. It is bordered by
Hingoli District and
Washim District in the west,
Amaravati District and
Wardha District in the north,
Chandrapur District in the east and
Nanded District in the south. The languages spoken are
Marathi,
Hindi, Banjara and Kolami. Wardha and Penganga are the major rivers in Yavatmal District. The chief crops are jowar, cotton and rice. Yavatmal also has rich deposits of coal. The climate is hot and dry, with moderately cold winters. The temperature varies from 5
o C to 45
o C. Yavatmal District receives an annual rainfall of about 105 cm.
Chintamani of Kalamb, Tipeshwar sanctuary and Sahstrakund waterfalls near Umarkhed are the major tourist attractions.
